Intro to Eco Printing a Scarf with Renata Britez
Get to know the colourful bounty of Maritimes flora by working with fresh plants foraged by Natural Dyer Renata Britez. Natural dyeing can be fun, but the experience of using seasonal & regionally relevant plants, as opposed to pre-extracted and imported powders, provides a real connection to this age-old process. Students will come away with an understanding of natural dyeing with fresh raw dye, and surface design techniques and leave with sample swatches in various sustainable fibres, a finished silk scarf dyed with local colour, as well as informational handouts on how to repeat the process at home with local plants.
Felted Puppets with Alevtina Sharapova
This class will suit both beginners and experienced felters. Tina will guide you through the steps of making a 3D shape on a flat resist. You will begin by making a small practice sample, and then can choose a pattern from various animals for the full-size puppet. If you already have some felting experience, you can make your own design. Tina’s students have made all kinds of animals from foxes, dogs, and sheep to dragons and other fairy-tale creatures with multiple horns, legs, or wings.
